Apples are one of the few fruits that do find their way into the average American diet. If you don't currently eat apples, you may be doing your body a disservice.

You may better understand the saying "an apple a day keeps the doctor away" after reading the following facts and health benefits of apples.

There are so many apples to choose from, how about the green ones, the red ones, the honey crisp, Fuji, those are just a few. And no matter what, sweet or tart, just about everyone has their favorite.

Apples actually come from the Rose family of plants, in general they are red or green in color, sometimes pink or even a combination of colors. They are round of course, and are mostly eaten raw or sometimes made in to a pie.

Besides their great taste, they come with an anti-cancer benefit too. They are loaded with flavonoids, especially in their skins, which help to reduce the risk of colon cancer, breast cancer and others.

To add to that, the vitamins and minerals found in this wonderous fruit also help to lower the risk of diabetes, help in reducing cholesterol and they help to keep you in great shape. The fiber alone helps to rid your system of fats which also helps to stop plaque from building up and, it also helps in keeping blood sugars level.

Apples also do a lot more for your overall health and looks - such as keeping your smile healthier, stopping the formation of gallstones, helping to protect you from Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, stopping irritable bowel syndrome, boosting up your immune system, preventing cataracts, and helping you get control of your weight. No wonder your mother always told you to eat your apples!

Apples are easy to add to your daily diet as they come in a wide variety and can be eaten without any preparation or utensils. If you want to jazz things up a little you can try eating your apples with a slice of strong cheese, slice them up into a fruit salad with a little honey and lemon, cook them into savory side dishes or even tossed into juicers or blenders for delicious fruit juices and smoothies.

They are one of the best fruits that you can add to your daily diet and one of the most tastiest and to top it all off, their all natural.
