The First Three Tips to Lose Weight

We all want to lose some weight at some point in our lives. If you are like 98% of the population, you already have tried to lose weight. Did you succeed or gain it back?

There many ways to lose weight, and many ways to gain it back. If you don't want to gain any back and make you long term health a priority, you will want to change your life in a healthy way. Here are 3 tips to monitor your health and lifestyle:

1) Write in a Journal: People who use a journal tend to skip snacks and eat healthier, even before trying to lose weight. When you are making those healthy lifestyle changes, a journal allows you to monitor your progress. You can also see what you ate when you are not feeling well or if you suddenly feel down. Studies show people who use a food journal tend to lose more weight, quicker and keep it off in the long term.

2) Set a Goal: Did you know only 3% of people set goals? It shouldn't surprise you only 3% of people succeed in their weight loss goal! Coincidence? Nope. Setting a realistic goal that's easily measured can mean the difference between success and failure. You will know if you are on track or if there is something getting in your way. You will know when you succeed.
Remember, keep it realistic and write it down! Keep it somewhere you will see it every day.

3) Have Fun: We don't like to lose, we like to win. Aim to fit into a certain pair of pants or dress rather than set a weight loss goal. And make it a game and have fun. If your exercise routine is work, then you won't want to do it. If it becomes play and it's something that is enjoyable, you will be taking a mini-vacation every day! Set your goal for a dress size and having fun every day!

These are just some of the tips my clients get when we work together. They turn their health around and truly start to enjoy life! Of course, diet and exercise are the means to the end. But, if you don't have this strong foundation of goals, fun and accountability, weight loss will remain a wish. Here's a last little tip: get 5 servings of fruits and vegetables in every day!
